Dear Federal Bureau of Investigation: It’s not Funny

by Glenn R. Jackson

The Washington Times is reporting that the culprit behind the anthrax letter’s sent to the Senate offices of Daschle and Leahy, as well as to media outlets in New York and Florida is suspected by the FBI to be an American citizen and former scientist at the bio-weapons center at Fort Detrick.  The Fox News follow-up report on this story has the FBI claiming that the Washington Times has “overplayed” the report, and that the Times report was “laughable”.

 Really?

And exactly what is so funny about weaponized anthrax being spread around the U.S. Postal system, five deaths from breathing the anthrax spores, and a Federal law enforcement agency, five months later, no closer to an arrest then they were on day one.  I’m sorry, but I am still not laughing about any of the September 11th aftermath.

I’m also still not laughing about the apparent continuation of the Clinton administration’s perversion of Harry Truman’s famous “the buck stops here”, by passing responsibility for failures into the dustbin of history.  To this day no one, from those fun guys at the FBI to the Clinton holdover, George Trent, has lost a penny of Federal pay or their jobs for the loss of thousands of American lives and the tailspin of the American economy.

The fact that many of those responsible for the greatest peacetime loss of life in our nation’s history remain on the people’s payroll is a disgrace.  Working out their atonement for failure on my dime is not what I have in mind.

“If you always do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you’ve always got.”

No truer words have been spoken as regards this administration’s implementation of “homeland security”, as the American people seem to be the only ones to pay, with their freedoms, for the acts of terrorist freely entering the country under the very eyes of the federal government.

We might as well bring back Attorney-General Janet Reno to run this security effort given the current policy’s targeted abuse of American citizens.  In the last 10 years the Federal Law enforcement apparatus has been effectively and violently used only against Americans.  Heaven forbid that we actually crack down on foreign nationals who threaten this nation.

In Janet Reno’s America it seems that after Ruby Ridge, Waco, that entire Elian Gonzalez fiasco, Americans must now undergo racial pandering during the “new and improved” Airport Security checkpoints.  I’m just glad to know that a skill I learned as a child, “eeney-meeney-miney-mo” is still a skill I can call on in a future employment opportunity if I wish to work for the new federal Airport Security agency.

And while the FBI is laughing, let’s not forget the rest of the “Foreign National protection act” that is being proposed by none less then the President of the United States as he cranks up his latest shared domestic policy initiative.  Along with Richard Gephardt and Tom Daschle, the President is reviving his postponed plans for Amnesty for Illegal Aliens.

The simple mechanics of the amnesty plan, and the human behavioral response of the illegal alien population, doom this plan to be just another big government giveaway. Failure to deport, failure of the President and the people's representatives to first enforce our nation's immigration laws before granting yet another government program to give away the keys to the kingdom will be a terrible blow to our nation's founding principles.

The issue of immigration reform is one of the most important facing this nation today. This is true not only for the reasons so clearly spelled out by the attacks of September 11th, but also because of the impact mass legal and illegal immigration has on a vast array of other issues. Immigration impacts our tax burden, law and order, education, and the welfare rolls.

Yet our elected representatives seem more concerned with perception over reality or anything that may yield actual results.

So Americans will stand in long lines at airport check-in, undergo meaningless security clearances, labor on under the “timely” security alerts and wonder what ever happened to the great anthrax scare.  Americans will have to ponder what the next Janet Reno will be able to do with the free hand of the terrorist security measure, called interestingly the Patriot Act.  And American’s will just have to deal with a continued influx of people crossing our borders to live off the great “sugar-daddy”, and who have no intent to adopt this nation’s values only to use them.

Meanwhile the human stampede at our borders continues no waiting lines there.  What with the fresh hopes of a “no ask, no tell” amnesty plan, the freedom for illegals just keep on building.  While American citizens see theirs dwindle.

No, there really isn’t anything “laughable” about this at all.
