Crossing the Rubicon…Will we be better off in 2004?
By Glenn R. Jackson
What we knew for month’s is now in plain view, it is war. Naturally we are all hoping for the best, and praying for our troops during the worst. And while we will never doubt the outcome we are always mindful of the debt we owe to the men and women in our armed forces.
That said, those leaders that have brought us to war have some questions to answer at the point of war’s conclusion. Before the anticipated cheers and cries of adulation get too loud to hear anything else, let’s set out the questions that beg for some straight answers.
Bill Kristol (Weekly Standard), why are you so insufferably puffed up and full of yourself, what do you get out of all of this?
Mr. President, do you realize how badly you have been set-up by the Chinese, through their North Korean puppets, to put up or shut up in the Pacific Rim? Isn’t China one step closer to Taiwan and the U.S. significantly constrained by your drive for war?
Secretary Powell, even considering the knife in the back you received from the French, your about face on war is noteworthy, what did you learn to cause such a turn?
Mr. President, speaking of Taiwan, do you think the role of "liberator" only applies to the U.S., and how do you plan to respond when China avails itself of the same armed "liberation" strategy that you released onto the world stage?
Rush Limbaugh, when did protecting the President become more important then protecting the Republic? As America’s "truth-detector", how do you square U.S. open borders and complete lack of immigration enforcement with the "imminent" threat of Iraqi WMD?
Speaking of immigration enforcement, Mr. President how did we survive in a world of MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction) with the Soviet Union without resorting to "preemptive war", yet in a world of "open borders" and complete absence of immigration enforcement the U.S. must resort to a preemptive war to protect our nation from a nation half a world away and one lacking in any strategic capability?
Speaking of preemptive war, Mr. President have you considered the fundamental changes to the American psyche that will flow from your decision to commit the nation to a preemptive war?
To Congress, beside providing guests for the cable and network talk shows what has been your role in the preemptive war debate, where is the declaration of war?
Mr. President, you made the argument to the UN that war was necessary to enforce UN resolution 1441, the 1991 Armistice and a host of other UN resolutions, yet the UN balked. What does that tell you about the UN and America’s continued role in that organization?
Mr. President, clearly from your attempts to involve the UN as well as other nations you are still committed to fulfilling your father’s New World Order. Where are you taking the nation?
Mr. President, you continue to be silent on the role of prior administrations in protecting the American people from terrorist, Iraq, and other threats. Will you be forthcoming with information about any terror cover-ups, especially TWA flight 800?
Clearly there are more questions then we have yet seen the answers for, perhaps you should be writing down your own (send them to me). With this momentous shift in traditional and long held U.S. founding principles there stands to be a lot to answer for, both now and for many years to come.
We have crossed the Rubicon in the history of a nation. Fundamental and deep changes to the nature of our nation will begin to take shape; threats engendered by our President’s decisions will begin to snap into focus. The tragic day of September 11th set the nation on a path of national renewal, that day has now been overshadowed by a day of the President’s own making.
Final question, Mr. President do you believe by your actions that the U.S. will be better off in 2004 then it is today?
